Defending The Unborn

Saturday marks 49 years since the Roe v. Wade decision. For 49 years, The United States Supreme Court has deemed a woman’s choice to have an abortion as a Constitutional right. Since then, over 50 million unborn children have lost their right to life.

Through this decision, the Supreme Court asserted the idea that we get to judge who is worthy of life and who is not. However, our Lord has already determined that all life is full of inherent worth and dignity. There is no individual or group of individuals that gets to rule which lives are worth protecting.

Our Lord calls us to serve the least of society (see Matthew 25:40-45), and the vulnerable unborn members of society are included in this population. For decades, our culture has cast off the unborn and inhuman. However, many members of society have also criminalized grieving mothers considering abortions. In order to build a true culture of life, we must think of both mothers and children.

In order to eliminate abortion, we must also eliminate the perceived need for abortion. Therefore, we must address the need to dismantle systems that drive the demand for abortion—including poverty, racism, and misogyny.

Abortion has robbed so many women of peace. It has disposed of innocent lives. Its effects have seeped deep, wounding countless souls. The legalization of abortion threatens personhood and femininity and unity.

Friend, please join my in praying for the unborn, for expectant mothers, for women who have had abortions, and for the respect of all human life.
