Follow His Light

Tomorrow, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Epiphany. Through this celebration, we recognize the visit of the Magi to Jesus, commemorating Christ’s physical manifestation to the Gentiles.

We all know that Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament, meaning He satisfied God’s covenant with the Jews. However, the arrival of the wisemen signifies the universal call to worship Jesus. Although the Jews had been anticipating the arrival of the Messiah for centuries, from the start of His ministry on earth, Christ welcomed Gentiles.

The magi were known to be astronomers, so the radiance of the Star of Bethlehem guided them to the infant Jesus. Upon visiting Him, they paid Him homage and gave Him gifts. Even though they did not fully understand Christ’s mission as Savior, they understood His splendor.

Friend, our Lord is constantly shining light that guides us toward Him. Whether we deeply know Him, struggle to follow Him, or yearn to grow nearer to Him, God wants us to experience His presence and come to know His love.

No matter our background or our past, He calls us to Him. His heart pours forth constellations of love that continually offer to lead us to Him. It is our choice to follow His light. Just as the wise men could choose whether they would follow the guidance of the star, we get to choose to pay attention to God’s guidance.

Throughout our lives, we journey through vast terrains of arid ground and strenuous landscapes. Regardless of where we find ourselves, our God never ceases to provide a sense of direction. Whether or not we know it to be Him, our Lord paves paths of fruit and love for our wandering souls. So, as we wander, may our final destination always be Christ.

Prayer For the Epiphany

God, through a star, You guided the wise men to worship Your Son. We pray that Your light might shine our way and guide us to You; we ask that we may also be brought to Your presence and worship. In a world often consumed by darkness, may we reflect Your light and seek to go where You lead us. Amen.
